Bright Angel Lodge - Grand Canyon Motorcoach Tour
Located right on the rim in the western part of the historic section of Grand Canyon Village, the Bright Angel Lodge as been a popular place to stay on a Grand Canyon vacation for years. Built in 1935, the rustic lodge and cabins were designed by famed-architect Mary E.J. Colter.
Colter’s design was effectively the model for subsequent National Park Service structures in the following years. The Lodge influenced the look and feel of an entire architectural genre, which some call National Park Service Rustic, as well as set the precedent for using bold, large-scale design elements and site materials in construction.
Considered the center of South Rim activity, the Lodge is a designated as a National Historic Landmark. Located just a few feet from the Canyon rim, Bright Angel Lodge is also the check-in point for the world famous Grand Canyon Mule Rides.
The Lodge offers a wide range of affordable accommodations, as well as restaurants, a gift shop, a coffee shop/lounge, and a transportation/tours/activities desk. The history room has a “geological fireplace,” with rocks arranged floor to ceiling in the same order as the geologic strata in the Canyon walls.
